Each member of our team brings a unique flavor to the classroom and each possesses a remarkable character which students spending time in their company can benefit from.

Bint Shahjalal is one of the head instructors at the Academy. Born and raised in Swaziland, she developed a deep passion for learning about Islam from a young age. As she approached high school, she decided to dedicate her life to Islamic studies, traveling to Idarah Tarbiyatul Banaat in Azaadville, South Africa. There, she completed the rigorous 4-year 'Alimiyyah program, earning ijazah (teaching licenses) from esteemed 'Ulama. She now resides in New York with her husband and teaches Islamic Studies at Ummah Academy and a lead instructor at Al-Qamar Academy.

Born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya, Bint Shariff developed a deep affection for Islam and an increasing desire to learn more about her faith from a young age. Upon completing her secular education, she advanced her Islamic studies at Idarah Tarbiyatul Banaat in Azaadville, South Africa. Following two years in the 'Alimiyyah program, she earned her diploma in Arabic Language and Islamic Studies at the Islamic University of Kenya. Bint Shariff has shown a lifelong devotion to the Islamic sciences, aiming to offer a thorough and high-quality educational experience to her students. She now resides in Nairobi and is a leading instructor at Al-Qamar Academy.
